NORMAN ISLAND

History, diving, and fun awaits you on this stop of your sailing experience.

It is believed that in 1750, a Spanish Galleon ship was wrecked on the shores of North Carolina. The pirates of the day carried off all the loot that they could find and supposedly hid it all on Norman Island. The total value of this loot in the time period was about 250,000 pieces of eight. This place was a den of activity for Pirates for the period; and in fact, the island is said to be named for one who was subsequently hanged for his misdeeds. So, keep your eyes opened for this buried treasure when snorkeling hot spots of the Caves and Indians, if you are not so lucky to find the loot; well maybe the translucent, clear, sea-green waters will be enough or the turtles that you will see if you snorkel your way around the sites.

If you are a nature lover – then explore this island on foot where you will encounter panoramic views on top of the summit.  The western edge of the trail lends to an amazing view of the Bight, Sir Francis Drakes Channel, and the Caribbean Sea.  Beauty at its best.
